Bobby Sands Freedom Flag – 90cm × 60cm
This green commemorative flag features a portrait of Bobby Sands, raised fists with broken chains, Irish tricolour details and bold “Bobby Sands” and “Freedom” lettering.
The design remembers Bobby Sands and the 1981 hunger strike at the Maze Prison, also known as Long Kesh, in Northern Ireland. Republican prisoners sought recognition of political status through five demands relating to prison clothing, work, association, visits and lost remission.
Bobby Sands began his hunger strike on 1 March 1981 and was elected MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone during the protest. He died on 5 May after 66 days without food. Ten men died during the 1981 hunger strike, which remains a significant event in modern Irish history.
